Reading and writing about topics relating to creativity is one of my goals for the year. I was able to get started on the reading part, but it was difficult for me to commit to the writing aspect. It wasn't until last month that I felt a strong sense of urgency to take action. Up until that point, I have been making plausible justifications. Sayings like, "I don't have the time to write, I'm not inspired, and I need more information," etc. Despite the fact that I have studied the topic for over five years, held seminars, and written articles, I was still asked last year by an organization to do an Instagram live on "Discovering your creative potential." I shared these to let you know that, whatever one's education or competence level, we still have to deal with resistance in some way.
Resistance is the main obstacle that each of us must overcome in order to exercise our potential. It can manifest inwardly as imposter syndrome, inferiority complex, fear, or doubt. It may also have an external influence due to the words or deeds of other people. They can say things like, "Why waste time on such an idea," "It's been done before and it didn't work," "Focus on something more essential," "It's unrealistic," or similar to what Brian's colleague said in the first newsletter, "That doesn't look anything like a horse." I firmly believe that if we can get through our own internal struggles, overcoming the external ones will be easy. Shakespeare said “Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.”
Dennis Kimbro mentioned in his book “What makes the Great, Great” that the key to eliminating fear from your life is to create and hold firmly to positive images. He stated that your fear is real only to the extent that you allow your body to feel it. Do not be deceived by apparent similarities; you are unique and no one else conceptualizes in the same way as you do. Once you realize how valuable you are, smiles will return, the sun will emerge from the clouds, prosperity will come knocking, and you'll be able to live your life just as your creator intended. Learn to take initiative, think critically on your own, and carry out your own plans. Going your own way and ignoring opposition requires creative confidence.
Starting this newsletter and disseminating "Daily Creativity Dose" on “The Creativity In You” telegram channel were the two things that helped me overcome my resistance. I am able to enforce commitment after establishing the mentioned methods, and I added accountability. Amazingly, 20 subscribers from various parts of the world signed up for the newsletter in just the first week of publication. I'm now accountable to my subscribers for a weekly newsletter.
Subsequently, I will be sharing on the qualities and traits that should be instilled if you want creativity to flourish.
Good luck!
